4Sight Legacy Planning™
Three tiers of
trust design.
Not only who receives what, but who should help, when, how, and for what purpose.
A plan appropriate to your circumstances and purposes.
The goal is not complexity. Some plans simply pass property along to the people we love; others also look after those people over time, and some carry forward what money alone cannot. You do not need to know which fits you before we meet.
Foundational
Straightforward, trust-centered planning that puts the right documents and decision-makers in place.
Legacy
The most personalized approach, for plans that reflect the people, principles and purposes you treasure.
Trust Planning: Foundational
Trust Planning, Foundational, is 4Sight’s name for straightforward, trust-centered estate planning, often chosen to help avoid probate and establish reliable arrangements for incapacity and death.
It focuses on putting the right legal documents in place, selecting trusted decision-makers, and providing clear directions for distributing property. In the usual Foundational plan, beneficiaries receive their shares outright, rather than having their inheritances held in continuing trusts.
Our work together will address questions such as:
- Who should manage matters if you cannot?
- Who should receive your property, and when?
- Who should help loved ones carry out your wishes?
- How can the plan make a difficult season easier for the people you care about?
Trust Planning: Stewardship
Trust Planning, Stewardship, is 4Sight’s name for trust-centered estate planning for individuals and families whose objectives call for more than the orderly transfer of property.
It focuses on protecting assets, selecting trustworthy helpers, providing thoughtfully for beneficiaries, and giving future fiduciaries meaningful guidance. Our objective is not simply to determine who will receive your property, but to help you consider how your wealth can be protected, managed, and used for the well-being of those you care about. Depending on your circumstances, this may include continuing trusts, protections for beneficiaries facing financial or personal challenges, and provisions designed to encourage maturity, responsibility, and wise stewardship.
Inspired in part by the work of James E. “Jay” Hughes Jr. and his Five Capitals of Family Wealth, we recognize that wealth encompasses far more than money and property. It also includes the human, intellectual, social, and spiritual resources that contribute to individual and family well-being. Thoughtful stewardship seeks to use financial resources in ways that support and strengthen these other forms of wealth.
The stewardship questions will vary with your circumstances, relationships, assets, and objectives. Your plan should help answer not only who receives what, but also who should help, when, how, and for what purpose. Many clients find it important, if not essential, to help others understand the “Why” of their plan, including the values and wisdom they hope to share and the responsibilities they hope to encourage.
Trust Planning: Legacy
Trust Planning, Legacy, is 4Sight’s most personalized approach to trust-centered estate planning. It is designed for individuals and families who want their planning to reflect not only the financial resources they have accumulated, but also the people, principles, relationships, and purposes they treasure.
Our understanding of wealth is influenced by the work of James E. “Jay” Hughes Jr. and his Five Capitals of Family Wealth. Hughes encourages us to recognize that genuine family wealth encompasses five forms of capital: Human, Intellectual, Social, Spiritual, and Financial. Together, these forms of wealth contribute to individual and family well-being. Financial resources are important, but their greatest value may lie in how they support the development, relationships, opportunities, and flourishing of people and the purposes that matter to them.
Through Legacy Planning, we seek to understand what wealth and well-being mean to you.
- What have you learned through experience?
- What relationships do you cherish?
- What values and principles have guided your life?
- What opportunities do you hope to create for others?
- What wisdom do you hope to share?
- How might your material resources be used to support and strengthen the other forms of wealth you treasure?
These questions can lead us beyond the traditional estate planning inquiry of who receives what to consider why it matters, how it should be used, who should help, and what guidance you hope to leave behind. Through thoughtful counseling and planning, we seek to give practical expression to your objectives in the design of your trust, the selection and guidance of fiduciaries, and the preparation of those who may benefit from your planning.
Legacy Planning is not reserved for the very wealthy. It is for those whose circumstances, relationships, and aspirations invite a deeper exploration of what they treasure and what they hope to bestow upon the people and purposes that matter most.
Our role is not to determine what your legacy should be, but to help you discover, articulate, and give meaningful expression to what matters most to you. COREnology is one of the ways that conversation begins.
